Traditional Japanese Matcha Preparation (Usucha Style)

What You Need:

  • 1 tsp ceremonial-grade matcha
  • 2 oz hot water (around 175°F / 80°C)
  • A chawan (matcha bowl)
  • A chasen (bamboo whisk)
  • A sifter (optional but recommended)

Instructions:

  1. Sift your matcha into the chawan to avoid clumps.
  2. Pour in hot water.
  3. Using the chasen, whisk in a "W" or "M" motion quickly until frothy and smooth (about 15–30 seconds).
  4. Drink directly from the bowl, slowly and mindfully.

No milk, no sugar — just pure matcha.
